Norfolk Collegiate School understands the importance of providing opportunities which allow lessons learned in the classroom, real-life application. Practical lessons grant students first-hand educational experiences. This innovative approach permits a broader understanding of lessons taught in the classroom.

This summer a group of forty six upper school students and six chaperones will embark on a 15-day, international adventure. The trip, hosted by Educational Tours, is scheduled June 15 – 29. During the excursion, the NCS group will be lead through Spain, France and Italy, by both a bilingual, Educational Tour Director, and in some cities, local, certified tour guides. The group will visit many cities including: Madrid, Barcelona, Florence, Vatican City, and Rome.

The students have been tasked with reading many books in the previous school year. Books in their curriculum are saturated with references to historical artifacts and sites. They will visit many of the historic site they have been studying, on the trip. 

The chaperones accompanying the students have studied the locations and historical attractions in-depth.  “Many teachers can speak on Europe due to their diverse backgrounds. Many have lived in the cities and fluently speak the languages.” Said Lisa Lain, NCS Spanish Teacher. 

The opportunity will permit students to actually see the art they are tested on and where major historical events literally took place. “We are hoping the trip wets student’s appetites for travel, and broadens them culturally,” said Laid.

Some special attractions the trip will include are: the Madrid Royal Palace, Prado, Parque Guell, Palais des Papes, Pisa Cathedral, Duomo, and the Colosseum, and the Sistine Chapel. Teachers felt it was necessary for one more stop on their adventure, El Escorial. The trip was extended one day to allow a visit to El Escorial, which is located in Northern Spain.

Student and chaperones are very excited to shove off and look forward to sharing stories from their overseas travel.
