Upper School Students & Staff Accept Polar Plunge Cool School Challenge

Thirty-two members of the Norfolk Collegiate family, including Headmaster Scott Kennedy, headed into the icy waters off Virginia Beach on Friday, Feb. 3 during the second annual Polar Plunge Cool School Challenge.  Raising money for Special Olympics Virginia, each member had pledged at least $100 to the cause.

Most students braving the ocean waters are also members of the Special Olympics club at Norfolk Collegiate.  Following in the footsteps of his two older brothers, senior Sam Hitch is president of the club and his dedication to raising funds has driven him to a new level of commitment.  He has vowed to run 10 miles a day for 50 days and hopes to raise $10,000 through his effort.  To date, his efforts have netted over $7,700.  WTKR News Channel 3 recognized his commitment with their “People Taking Action” Award!

The Polar Plunge in Virginia Beach raised $1.12 million. The proceeds provide support to more than 10,000 Special Olympics athletes and 20,000 volunteers across the state.
