Clubs & Activities
	The lower school has an extensive list of exciting clubs and activities for students of all grades and interests. Some of the arts programs include yoga or dance, private piano or strings lessons, band, chorus, or enjoying 'Young Audience' Performances or Hurrah Player shows. All students participate in the Million Minute Reading Challenge, and a strong Student Council Association includes representatives from all grades. Spelling bees, reading buddies, and a shared experience K-12 U.N.I.T.Y. program are other opportunites the students enjoy. Fourth and fifth graders have abundant choices in Math Club, Science Club, Writing Club, Forensics and Intramurals. Additionally, fifth grade students may participate in producing the Oak Street Newspaperand Grade 5 Honors Science Program. The Girls on the Run Club is a special program that encourages preteen girls in these grades to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running.The Oak Ambassadors Club is for fifth graders and their parents who volunteer to benefit worthwhile causes within our community during three to four organized projects per year.   There are numerous field trips enjoyed by the lower school students. A sample listing of some excursions include the American Rover, Brookdale Farms, Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, Elizabeth River Project/Learning Barge, Endview Plantation, Jamestown Plantation, Virginia Aquarium and the Marine Science Center, the Virginia Living Museum, the Virginia Zoo, and the Yorktown Power Station.

	A typical week at the lower school includes a long list of possible choices for your student to enjoy.  One actual week in October 2012 is shown below:   Monday:   Oak Street Journal, 7:30 a.m. Lower School Band, 7:30 a.m. Science Lab-Grade 5- Rocket Racers Competitions Girls on the Run, 3:00 p.m. Strings, 3:00 p.m.   Tuesday:   SCA Assembly, 8:30 a.m. SCA Candidate Elections Science Lab-Grade 1- Animal II Yoga (Grades 3-5), 3:00 p.m.                 Wednesday: Lower School Band, 7:30 a.m. SCA Classroom Representatives Elections Science Lab-Grade 5- Energy Transformation 4th & 5th Grade Chorus, 3:00 p.m. Dance (Kindergarten – Grade 2), 3:00 p.m.   Thursday: Science Lab-Grade 2- Habitats II – Pond, Plants and Invertebrates Yoga (Grades Kindergarten- Grades 2), 3:00 p.m. Dance (Grades 3-5), 3:00 p.m. Friday: Blue and White NCS Jeans Day Lower School Band, 7:30 a.m. Friday Morning Assembly, 8:30 a.m. Science Lab-Grade K-Leaves I Girls on the Run, 3:00 p.m.
