2012 Summer Reading Assignment for Students Entering Fourth Grade
	Please read at least one book off the summer reading list and complete one of the following report options: Written, Cereal Box, or Oral Report.   Option #1 - Written Book Report Each paragraph should include at least five complete sentences. Please remember to indent your paragraphs. Your report may be handwritten or typed. First Paragraph– Include the title, author, and the genre of the book. Also, explain why you chose to read this book. Second Paragraph– Describe the main character(s) in the book. Use many adjectives and vivid details. Also describe the setting of the book. Where does the story take place? Is it in the present time period? Past? Future? Third Paragraph– Give a short summary of the plot. How does the story begin? What is the problem in the story? How is the problem resolved? Include information about any important events. Fourth Paragraph– Give your opinion of the book. It’s ok if you didn’t like it! Include reasons to support your opinion.   Option #2 - Cereal Box Book Report Cover an empty cereal box with paper and decorate it as follows: Front–Hand draw a picture of your favorite scene in the book. Place the title where the cereal name belongs and the author’s name in place of the manufacturer’s name. Side 1 – Paragraph One- Describe at least three main characters in the book from most important to least important. Make sure you describe their traits and give examples from the book that show those traits. Side 2 – Paragraph Two– Write a description of the setting of the book. Make sure you include plenty of details. Back – Paragraph Three– Write a brief summary of the book. Make sure you include the problem in the book and how it is solved. Make a decorative border around your summary out of symbols meaningful to your book. Extra Credit – (Inside the box)Design one of the following: a game (maze, puzzle, etc.), a song, a craft, or something else that relates to the story and/or include a story related prize.   Option # 3 – Oral Book Report 1. Your report should be no less than three (3) minutes in length.   2. Please include the following information in your oral report:     a. Title     b. Author     c. Setting     d. Genre of book & what makes your book the genre it is (ex: fantasy because the story is totally made up & could never happen in real life)     e. Main Character(s)     f. Summary of the story, including the most important events in the story 3. Give your opinion of the book with reasons to support your opinion. You don’t have to like your book, but be sure explain why. 4.
